Europeans set sail for the New World because of a desire to create a better life for themselves. There were stories of more land being available in the Americas and there were more opportunities for advancement.
After Europeans arrived, Natives faced significant violence, displacement, and diseases brought by the Europeans. Many Natives were forced off their lands, leading to loss of livelihood and cultural disruption. Numerous indigenous populations experienced a substantial decline in numbers due to warfare and diseases, causing immense suffering and loss of life.
Some of the reasons Europeans actively engaged in exploration included the need to find new land and new raw materials. Exploration greatly paved the way for many trade opportunities.
One result of the loss of Native American lives to disease is that the Native Americans moved farther away from the Europeans. Another result of disease among the Native Americans was their lack of people to fight the Europeans for land.
