The qualifications one can have to be a building architect is generally a degree from a university or college. The degree would be in architecture. One should also have experience in the field.
There are actually two broad types of masters degree in architecture. It get's confusing, because both are generally abbreviated "M.Arch.".
One type is for individuals who already have an undergraduate architecture degree ("B.Arch.") and wish to study a particularly advanced aspect of architecture. For example, urban planning, or design. This type of degree requires that the applicant already have an undergraduate degree and selection is based on things such as portfolio of work, GRE scores, letters of recommendation, etc.
The other type is typically referred to as a "professional M.Arch." This is a graduate degree that is typically three years long and is for people who have an undergraduate degree in anything other than architecture and wish to become an architect without going back to undergrad. This type of degree typically requires a GRE score above a certain minimum, and previous completion of various math courses, such as trigonometry.
The specific qualifications vary from school to school and cannot be broadly answered. You should contact the architecture department at the school(s) of interest for inquiry.

Pericles had ordered the building of the Parthenon, and hired Phidias to supervise the building of it. the architects were Ictinos and Callicrates
The jury is still out on this one. Seriously though, a good level of intelligence is required to become qualified as an architect. There seems to be an unwillingness to acknowledge that other building professionals, skilled trades in particular, can have a contribution to make as part of the overall building team. =========================================== Architects I have known are more artistic than knowledgeable about building construction. It's a little more difficult to draw a conclusion about their intelligence.
Not all architects design buildings, some work in other aspects of the building construction such as project management. Some architects design furniture, but this is not usually covered in architectural training.
Function (How the building is used) Form (How it looks) Structure (How it stands up)

Architects design almost every building you see. If there were no professional architects, our buildings would look lopsided and strange.

It is not possible to get a job at IASA with no paper qualifications. They only hire architects and to be an architect you must have a degree. They are also unlikely to hire an architect with no work experience.
Architects use fractions every day in their designs. Fractional measurements are a major part of any design or building.
