"Immigration Officer" is a generic term covering jobs such as Immigration Enforcement Agent, Adjudications Officer, Immigration Information Officer, or Detention Officer. Each position requires a slightly different backgrounds in terms of education, and physical abilities and hire at entry level of GS-5 unless your experience qualifies you for a higher grade. You must be under 35 for most law-enforcement positions. To apply for most federal government job openings, you can apply online at www.usajobs.opm.gov. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services maintains a career link at www.uscis.gov and Immigration and Customs Enforcement at www.ice.gov. For most positions, you will be required to take a test administered by the Office of Personnel Management that is specific to the position you apply for. As positions become available, USCIS/ICE calls applicants with the highest scores first for interviews. Successful applicants will receive an offer which states the location, pay grade and other details. If you accept the offer, you will be paid as you complete a course of training relevant to your position. Upon graduation, you will be an "immigration officer" but still subject to a one year probationary period.

∙ 12y agoi only know that to go straight into being an Australian federal recruit you need to have studied at least 3 years of a bachelor degree at uni. probably a similar system as the state police
