First and foremost you have to qualify to be employed as a member of a law enofrcement or investigative agency. The majority of investigators will be chosen by their superiors from among their department ranks based on many intangible qualifications of which (perhaps surprisingly), education is NOT necessarily a prerequisite.

You would have to complete law school. It would take four years as a full-time student for The Bachelor's degree, and three additional years to obtain the juris doctor (JD) degree. The juris doctor is the degree awarded to those individuals who successfully complete law school.
