The planters wanted to preserve the slave society and get rich on the cotton revenues.
The poor white trash cared nothing about slavery, but were motivated to defend the homeland against the invader. Also they were the sort of men who relished a darn good fight.

∙ 14y agoThe South's reasons to fight the Civil War was to secede from the Union and to keep slavery. Secede means to separate themselves from the country for ya'll who doesn't know what that is. Not to be confused with succeed, which means to acheive.
