I believe that the practiced religion in New Jersey is the religion of Jediism. Unknown to most commoners, Jediism is commonly perceived in New Jersey as Islam is perceived in the Middle East. Everyone in New Jersey, including Christians, are really just Jedi in disguise. Be aware, because this is why the crime rate is so high.

There was mostly religious diversity, thanks to Sir George Carteret (he developed a kind of government that allowed religious freedom). The religious freedom attracted lots of settlers (population reached 120,000 by 1775).

The earlier religious groups were mostly Anglican, Puritan, Quaker, and Calvinist, though.

Any religion. Lord John Berkeley and Sir George Carteret allowed freedom of religion in the colony in order to attract more settlers.

What religion was in the New Jersey colony?

I'm pretty sure that the official religion was Anglicanism, but there were a number of different religious sects existing in New Jersey at different times before the Revolution. For example, as New Jersey was originally settled by the Dutch, there were a number of "Dutch Reformed" followers. Also, there were many Congregationalists (aka Puritans) who had migrated there from New England.
