During classical era Buddhism grew out of Hinduism. Some other minor Religion such as jainism and shikhism also developed during that time.

Although Hinduism is not a single religion the earliest evidence for prehistoric religion in India date back 5500--2600 BCE. The beliefs matured during 1500--500 BCE into the "historical Vedic religion". Modern Hinduism grew out of the Vedas, the oldest of which is the Rigveda, dated to 1700--1100 BCE.
