I don't know if I'm answering this right. But I'm from South Africa, took History in school, and this is what we learnt . . . During colonial rule, geography was a major factor. Africa was divided and most of the current countries where hereby formed. This was done with no consideration about the people who occupied the land but rather by greed for minerals etc. As a result, people who shared a heritage where divided, you yourself could be now ruled by the British, whilst your sister who lives in the tribe next door could now be rulled by the French. This as a result brook up people with common ancestry who today are totally different because of the colonial influence. For example, you 20 years down the line dress like the British, speak english, and eat Hamburgers, whilst your sister who moved to the other tribe, now dresses like the French, speaks French and eats pasta. . . Anyway, I could go on forever. . . Another thing, wars have been fuelled because of this. Like that in Rwanda . . . Because of colonialism, people who where different where made to live together (In so-called Colonies). During decolonialisation (I don't know how to spell that), a fight for power between these people who had to now live together within the borders of their now called "Country" ensued. Hope this helped. Check up the background to Rwandan civil war though.
