Ironically, The Beatles didn't make that much money as Beatles - their contracts were negotiated when they were unknown artists and quite naive, they also lost a lot of money in Apple. When they split up, George said they were pretty much broke. When they renegotiated contracts in the 1970s, they made far more money. Paul McCartney is worth around $800 million, Ringo around $300million.
For their first "official" recordings for Polydor (backing singer Tony Sheridan) they were paid a session fee. For their initial singles contract with EMI's Parlophone Records they were paid a penny farthing per disc sold. (This had to be divided five ways: the four band members, and their manager Brian Epstein.) After "Please Please Me" became a hit, they were signed to a full record contract, with an increase in royalties.
they made alot but had to give 95% to the goverment! So George wrote the song tax man to express his thoughts about it. I like helping people.
A penny farthing per single disc sold initially in 1962; 69 cents per album by the time they broke up.

In those days a million pounds was a lot of money..people could live on 10 pounds a week. The beatles had not the best nor the worst contracts in music bussiness. All considered the white album must have brought them 3 to 4 million pounds.
