If you have a car go into it, it's one of the safest places to be during a lightning storm because of the rubber tires. If not possible, make yourself as small as can be. Avoid anything metal, remove any metal you may have on. DON'T hide under a tree, as they may be tall enough to attract lightning--trees are like jumbo lightning rods because they are filled with water. The best thing to do would probably be to curl yourself up into a ball (Make yourself as SMALL AS POSSIBLE) and wait it out... if you can't go into a building or anything.

∙ 12y agoA2. You should stay away from trees and metal masts and similar. DO NOT wave Golf clubs in the air - more golfers are killed by lightning. Crouch down close to the ground, feet together, so as to leave as little distance between your grounding points.
[This is why cows are often killed - their legs are sufficiently far apart that a potential difference exists between their feet] A current of a few tens of mA may kill.
If you can find a hollow in the ground then that will be safer than a hillock.

∙ 11y agoGet away from unstable tall objects and attempt to make yourself the shortest thing in the area by crouching in a small ball, but do not go on your back or lay down. If you can though, get to shelter immediately because this is the best way to protect yourself from a thunderstorm.
