Wet tail is basically hamster diarrhea. You will notice that the hamsters feces is no longer solid. The cage may smell bad, despite cleaning (although you should continue to keep it clean). As the name tells you, the hamster will also have wet feces around its tail and bottom. It will need to be treated or the hamster could die. There are over the counter remedies sold at most pet stores.

∙ 14y agoIf their is diarehea around it's rear, won't eat or drink, sleeps all the time including night, and doesn't leave it's bed or sleeping area. You will need to take it to the vet for medecine or it won't survive.

∙ 14y agoHamsters with wet tail are generally lethargic with a loss of appetite and generally stop grooming. They have a very fluid diarrhea, and develop a wet, soiled and matted area around the anus and tail. The diarrhea causes them to become dehydrated, so their eyes may appear dull and sunken. They may sit "hunched up" and be irritable because of the abdominal discomfort. In serious cases, blood may be seen in the diarrhea or around the anus, and/or the rectum may protrude out of the anus because of the constant straining.

∙ 14y agoWet tail can cause severe diarrhea in hamsters. It usually last between 3-5 days and can be life threatening for the hamster. The end of the hamsters tail may appear wet or soiled. As well as this the hamster becomes very lethargic and irritable. If you hamster shows any of those signs the hamster needs to be taken to the vet as soon as possible. Often wet tail can kill a hamster within 24 hours.

∙ 12y agoIf the hamster's tail is wet, it has diarrhea. Watch out on what you feed them. Nothing with glucose/ any form of sugar such as rice which has high form of glucose.
