I would go with the largest size you are willing to buy and or carry. The most common sizes range from around 1.7 to 4.0 cubic feet. I picked up a 2.7 cubic foot for around $100 when I went off to college a few years ago, which is a pretty standard size.

A person living in a college dormitory may find a small cube refrigerator has more than enough capacity. A single person who gets most meals in restaurants or from Pizza delivery will need a smaller refrigerator than a single person preparing most meals from raw ingredients, or who uses lots of frozen foods.
