Sociology became an academic discipline as a result of advances in technology. This led to a greater exposure to other cultures which led to a need to study how social groups interact.
When groups of scholars share a cluster of interests, methods of study, and norms of communication, we say that they participate in a discipline. Dialogue in each discipline, which often centers around their content specific vocabulary, is based on types of evidence and methods of analysis that scholars in that discipline privilege.
The discipline that is allowed at a school will influence the academics. If students know there will be consequences, they will not waste time messing around and will instead focus on their studies.
A technical degree is an academic degree. In general, college degrees fall into three areas to include Arts, Science, and Applied Science. The arts degree has a broad scope, with a strong emphasis on the humanities, theoretical and general knowledge in a recognized discipline, interdisciplinary field, or of a professional study. The science degree is more of a focused approach with a science or applied science base to include a balance of liberal arts, technological knowledge, math and computer oriented skills, and practical skills needed for a particular discipline within the field. The technical degrees usually fall under the applied science area, where the degree is very career oriented, with practical hands-on training particular to a specific field of study.
Academic achievement can be defined as excellence in all academic disciplines, in class as well as extracurricular activities. It includes excellence in sporting, behaviour, confidence, communication skills, pantuality, assetiviness,Arts,Culture, and the like.

Although I am a professor of communication, many of my courses are interdisciplinary: they involve sociology, psychology, and even English Literature. (Note: in college, the word "discipline" often refers to a field of academic study.)
I personally do not know what that means. If your major is sociology then that's what it is. Now, there is a possibility that the sociology department has a number of options to the sociology degree. In other words, sociology/urban planning etc. You should check with an academic adviser at the institution you a enrolled at for clarification.
Academic development is the progress in academics that a student makes throughout a long amount of time. For example, if a student went from a B- average to an A average, that would be considered academic development.
