∙ 9y agoLike most animals, the ability to hear helps dolphins to avoid danger. It also allows them to communicate with each other using high pitched whistling sounds. The most unique way dolphins use sound, though, is called echolocation. Dolphins beam high pitched squeaks into the water. These sounds bounce off of surrounding objects, and then the dolphin hears those echos. The dolphin is able to determine what its surroundings are like from hearing the echos, down to wear a small fish is and how deep the water is. They use this for navigation, especially when the water has low visibility.
