See the website below for a list of states that have reciprocity with the state of Florida on the carrying of handguns. BUT BE AWARE that the concealed weapon or firearm permit issued by Florida under s. 790.06, Fla. Stat. is not a "carry permit" as that term is used in a social sense. The Florida permit allows you to carry concealed certain enumerated weapons* or a firearm* within the state. Others states' laws may only apply to handguns.
* defined by statute
In Florida It is also good in quite a few other states besides just Florida. Check the related link for more information.
Most states that issue gun permits recognize Florida's permit...it's 33 or 34 I think. Check out handgunlaw.us for a full list.
Being a Florida concealed weapons instructor I can say for sure that Florida does.
Not legally. You can carry a concealed weapon if you have a concealed weapons permit from Florida, or from any state that Florida recognizes.
Very generally speaking, it allows a person to legally carry a concealed weapon on his or her person. In some U.S. states, the permit only covers handguns, and in some other states, it covers weapons besides just handguns.
In most states, do you have to have a permit to carry a gun on your person. A couple of states allow concealed carry without a permit, and a few allow open carry without a permit. For more information, see handgunlaw.us
Different states have different requirements to obtain a permit. For more information on the specific state, see the related link.
You can get a concealed carry permit in most states, and a few states allow concealed carry without a permit. See handgunlaw.us for more information.
I'm assuming you mean if you carry a weapon does it have to be concealed. It depends on where you are. For instance, the state of Tennessee does not issue a "concealed" permit, but a handgun carry permit and there is no specific requirement to conceal the gun by law. However, many states do require the weapon to be concealed. Check handgunlaw.us for more information.
Assuming you have a concealed weapons permit, or can otherwise legally possess a concealed weapon, yes, it's perfectly legal, at least in most states. I don't know right off hand of any states that prohibit that.
In states where concealed weapons permits are issued, private investigators can carry weapons (if they have the permit). Also, in some states if you are a retired or active peace officer you can carry a gun with the proper endorsement.
No. The process of attaining a concealed handgun permit takes some time. Some states may grant reciprocity with a permit from your state, and some states will not. In the states which don't, you may either have to apply for an out-of-state permit, or just do without. Some states will not grant you a concealed carry permit, period.
It depends on the state. For instance, in Florida, yes, it's a concealed weapons permit and it covers weapons besides just guns. If I remember correctly, you can carry any weapon that's legal to have. On the other hand, Tennessee issues a "Handgun Carry Permit" that only covers handguns and nothing else, BUT it is not illegal to carry a concealed knife as long as the knife is otherwise legal (has to be less than 4 inches, basically), so the permit is irrelevent regarding knives. ADDING: Georgia just changed their law in 2010 to issue a "weapons carry license" that includes both handguns and knives with blades 5" or longer. Such weapons are not only covered by the permit, but also not subject to any city or county local laws. State-level preemption. But that's Georgia. Other states are different.
It varies from state to state. In Tennessee, the law was passed in 1995. In Florida, it was passed a year or two before that. A few states have passed concealed weapons laws as recently as the last 2 or 3 years, and a couple of states, Illinois and Wisconsin, also the District of Columbia, don't issue concealed weapons permits.
