The obvious route, I-95, passes through parts of NY,NJ, DE,MD,VA,NC,SC and GA on the way from CT to FL.
Georgia and Tennessee
You would go likely go through 3 states - North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia - to get from eastern Virginia to Florida.
I suppose you could go through any number of states, but the most direct route will take you through Wisconsin, Illinois and Kentucky.
The Tamiami Trail is contained entirely in Florida.

Depends on what route you're taking. If you're going straight up Interstate 75 (which would seem the most logical route), you'd go through Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and then Kentucky. If you were going to deviate off of I-75 (to go to a more western part of Kentucky, for example), you would probably get off of I-75 in the state of Tennessee, so there really isn't any reason you'd be driving through Alabama and certainly no reason why you'd drive through Mississippi, unless you got lost, or really felt like taking the long way there.
Using the shortest route from the state of New York to Kentucky, one would pass through Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The International Drive, or I-Drive, only goes through the state of Florida. It is an 11.5 mile transportation route that begins in Orlando, Florida and ends in Orange County, Florida.
The six states the Watsons traveled through on their way to Birmingham were Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama.
