no, but he was epileptic, which means he had seizures, and over the years he got more and more depressed, so one day, he and his partner had a fight, and they went to an alley and Vincent took a straight blade and cut his ear off. About 5 years later, he was painting ina field. He stopped and decide that he'd had enogh of the seizures and depression. He shot himself in the stomach and 3 days later died

He spent most of his life in a mental hospital. He was a nice guy though. He cut off his ear and sent it to his girlfriend.... He said he killed himself, but they say he had trouble with bullying, and one of the bullies was fooling around with a gun and killed him. That's why he's crazy. He's done many other things from depression.

It can be difficult enough to give an accurate diagnosis of living patients, much less of people who are long gone. However, it may well be that Van Gogh had a bi-polar disorder which was genetic in origin. It's a reasonable guess.

One theory is that it was lead poisoning...from the paint that he used. Holding paint brushes in his mouth as he worked and ingesting the paint on them.
