Management Style Seminars- There are three schools of thought when it comes to management syles. They are theoretical in nature, but when put into practice can make or break a manager. Most new managers and some seasoned ones do not have any idea of these styles unless they attend a seminar where these are discussed. The three management styles are: Theory X, Theory Y, and Theory Z. The differences in the three are perception of how the management views themselves and the people who report to them. Theory X is the most abrasive style encompassing the notion that the worker is inherently lazy and must be lorded and watched constantly. Theory Y is a more democratic style of management where the worker has a say in the operation and is valued by the manager. Theory Z is a style of management that embraces the pure team approach to management where everyone from the top executives down to the janitor sweeping the floor has a job to do and is part of a team. In these seminars, the manager understands and must adopt one of these management styles as their predominant style of management. 2. Management Philosophy Seminars- These are where the manager is married to their own management style and what is expected of them within the company and their overall industry. Every manager is required first to carry out the orders of their superiors and in doing so motivate the people who work for them to implement those orders. This is how production is accomplished and profits produced. In these seminars the manager may be required to create a new paradigm of thought to achieve what the company and even the industry expects with changing times and new technologies. 3. Management Thinking Seminars- These are purely psychological and may encompass the concept of critical thinking (looking at all sides of an issue removing any bias and coming to a logical rational decision), self-worth (how does the manager feel about themselves and the people impacted by those feelings), and motivation (how can the manager effectively consistently get their workers to move from point A to point b and accomplish a task designed to achieve company objectives). There are many other types of management seminars and each type is designed for the manager to be able to be more efficient and productive.
