Alveoli are the end branches of the respiratory system. They are an awesome place for gas exchange because their walls are very thin, which makes it easy for oxygen and carbon dioxide to transfer. They have a very large surface area and they are close to the capillarys so they can get a good supply of oxygen quickly.
