The theme, I think that is explored in Saki's story is mystery. The author deliberately tries to confuse the readers into thinking that Mrs. Sappleton' s husband and children are ghosts. This adds mystery to the story as the readers attempt to find out what really happened in the story. Also, I think it explores how the correct use of foreshadowing techniques can make a story suspenseful and really believable.

What is prescriptive discourse?

Prescriptive discourse is any discourse that promotes what should be thought, spoken, or done. For example, the sentence 'That window is open' normally expresses a certain descriptive thought (proposition, statement), namely, that that window is open. By way of contrast, the sentence "You should open that window" would normally be used to tell someone what to do, to prescribe a certain action. So prescriptive discourse is normative discourse. It is discourse about what ought to be the case rather than descriptive discourse about what is the case.

What is the theme of Hector Munro's The Open Window?

The essential theme of his story is deception. Not everything is what it seems. Vera shows how her sweet and innocent nature is all but a front of her mischievious and slightly cruel character. Vera is extremly self possesed and muture beyond her years, her imagination is flamboyant but so overpowering it is almost as though she gives into it. Her quick thinking attitude is aided by her imagination to create her disturbing story to Mr Nuttel. Not sure if this helps anyone, jsut my view of how i see the story.

What is meant by air to open valve?

An increase in air pressure to the actuator is required to cause the valve to open. This is called Air-to-Open Valve. Otherwise normally called Fail-Closed or Normally Closed Valve. An increase in air pressure to the actuator is required to cause the valve to close. This is called Air-to-Close Valve. Otherwise normally called Fail-Open or Normally Open Valve. Another way of looking at these definitions are: When air is given from the bottom of the diaphragm, the stem will go up and flow enters from the input and flows to the output. This is called Air-to-Open. When air is given from the top side of the diaphragm, the stem will go down and the stem will close the plug into the seat, meaning that the flow would be shut-off and the valve will be closed. Basically, you need air to either open or close the valve to allow your flow to proceed or shut.
