The Danube actually flows next to FOUR European Capital Cities
Vienna, Austria
Bratislava, Slovakia
Budapest, Hungary
Belgrade, Serbia
Many books may list only three, Vienna, Budapest and Belgrade (Yugoslavia), but after the fall of the USSR and the Warsaw Pact countries in 1989-1993, there have been many changes. Czechoslovakia split into two countries. Bucharest remained the capital of the Czech Republic and a new Bratislava became the capital of Slovakia making it the fourth capital city to be on the Danube.
Farther downriver, Belgrade was the capital of Yugoslavia until it broke up in 1991/1992 led by the Serbian Secession. It is now the capital of Serbia (again).
