The marriage of Edward VII to Alexandra of Denmark meant that both Nicholas II (Russia) and Wilhelm II (Germany) were first cousins of king George V (United Kingdom).

George, Wilhelm, and Nicholas's wife Alexandra (Alix) were also all grandchildren of Queen Victoria.

All the European Royal Families were, in some way or other, interrelated.

The King of England and the Kaiser of Germany were first cousins, both grandsons of Queen Victoria. The Kaiser was her favorite grandchild - she probably felt a little bit sorry for him. He was born with a withered arm. The Empress of Russia was another grandchild, and first cousin of the British King and the German Kaiser.

The Czar of Russia was also a first cousin of the Kaiser, through a different family relationship.
