3 sub species of tigers are now extinct because of hunters and they is only 5 sub species left

the Caspian,javan,and Bali races are gone.

There are acctually 6 types of tiger left but the south Chinese tiger, has a population of under 15. They will probably be the next to go. How sad :(

Extant Tigers:

Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) - India, Bangladesh

  • Estimates in 1995 approximately 4,700 Bengal Tigers living in the wild
  • There are about 300 living in captivity - zoos in Asia

Indochinese Tiger (Panthera tigris corbetti) - Vietnam, Thailand, China, Cambodia

  • Estimated to be less than 1,500 living in the wild
  • About 60 live in zoos in Asia and United State

Malayan Tiger (Panthera tigris jacksoni) - Malayan Peninsula

  • It is estimated that, due to poaching, only about 500 Malayan Tigers are still living in the wild.

Sumatran Tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) - Island of Sumatra

  • Estimated to be less than 500 living in the wild

Siberian Tiger (Panthera tigris altaica)- Siberian in Russia

  • Estimates in 1995 was about 200 in the wild

South China Tiger (Panthera tigris amoyensis) - China

  • The South China Tiger is declared extinct in the wild.
  • There are 59 known South China Tigers in captivity.

Extinct tiger subspecies are the Caspian tiger, the Bali tiger, and the Javan tiger. Surviving but endangered tiger subspecies are the Siberian tiger, the Bengal tiger, the Indochinese tiger, the Malayan tiger, the South China tiger, and the Sumatran tiger.

The Caspian, Javan, and Bali subspecies are extinct. The South China may be extinct in the wild, but there are around fifty or so in Chinese zoos, and some are being taught to hunt in South Africa for future release in their former haunts.

Caspian, Javan, Bali. The South China tiger may be extinct in the wild as well, but several captive born animals are being trained to live in the wild, and are going to be released this year.

the tiger is not extinct, but there are a few extinct caspian(1948) bali(1937) javan(1980's) the south china is very close because there are very close to none left
