Why is Canada a member of the common wealth of nations?
The Commonwealth of Nations is a British organization set up to protect the head of state. As more and more countries were becoming independent, the British set up the organization allowing nations who were previously/presently under British control (at the time) to join, if they recognized the monarch of the United Kingdom as the head of their state.
