These form an integrated block of text covering the period from the conquest of Canaan through to the end of the kingdom of Judah and the beginning of the Babylonian Exile. Written by the 'Deuteronomist' during the reign of Josiah, perhaps around 621 BCE, with some later additions to complete the history, the Deuteronomic history covers the period from 1400-586 BCE approximately.
