food leaves the stomach through the duodenum, which is the first portion of the small intestine. The second portion of the small intestine is called the jejunum and the third is called the ilium. The ilium terminates through the ileocecal valve and dumps into the cecum, the first part of the colon. Then travels through the ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, and the sigmoid colon. Then finally reaches the rectum and out through the anus.
