Adolf Hitler was a Gefreiter during World War I (a lance-corporal) and was twice decorated for bravery. He received the Iron Cross, Second Class, in 1914 and Iron Cross, First Class, in 1918, an honour rarely given to a Gefreiter.

As such, it is unlikely that he broke any treaties then.

Massive rearmament in terms of the military by:

  • conscription & mandatory training for a period every year for men.
  • began to expand the fleet beyond the 6 ships allowed in the surface navy, and started a massive program of U-Boat building
  • Mass production of Armour & the MS109 fighter aircraft, as well as tests of rolling blitzkrieg tactics.

Hitler also dispatched some troops to fight in Spain for Franco's revolutionaries, showing his resolve to support Fascist regimes.
