Light rays are one part of a spectrum of rays , all of the same basic type which are called electromagnetic radiation. The visible range from red to violet is just the section the human eye has evolved to be sensitive to. At lower frequencies there are AM radio waves, FM radio, UHF television, Microwaves, and Infra-red, and at higher frequencies ultra-violet, X rays, and gamma rays. All these waves are of the same type and all travel at the same speed, the so-called speed of light.
