Fossil fuels rely on the Sun's energy because the energy in fossil fuels came from plants and algae as they performed photosynthesis, which requires sunlight. This energy was stored in the form of sugars, and when the plants and algae died, they were eventually buried and heated to a point where they were turned into a fossil fuel, which contained the solar energy the plants had stored in their lifetimes.

A:Fossil Fuels originate from the transformation of residual organic matter within sedimentary rocks, a process that takes million years to occur.

Organic residues issued from dead organisms (plants, plantkon, etc) are mostly mineralized into CO2 in the water column (sea borders, lakes) and at the surface of sediments. However, under certain conditions (anoxicity), organic materials are preserved and trapped within sediments. As a result of sediments burial, organic matter is submitted to higher pressure and temperature and becomes thermally unstable. It then transforms into water, CO2 and hydrocarbons.

Fossil fuels exist because life exists at the Earth's surface. Photosynthesis is the process by which CO2 is transformed into organic matter that constitute living organisms. The energy for phtosynthesis comes from the sun, so indeed one can say that sun is the origin of fossil fuels.

When a fossil fuels is burn energy is converted to kinetic energy?

Fossil fuels represent chemical energy, a form of potential energy. This energy was stored in the hydrocarbon molecules and can be released by oxidation (burning).

Why is the sun the source of energy for fossil fuels?

Fossil fuels are produced by the slow alteration of masses of vegetation, compressed underground. That vegetation originally used the energy of sunlight to grow, therefore it is the sun's energy which is stored in chemical form, in fossil fuels.

Are Fossil fuels a form of chemical energy?

Yes, it is. Because coal and fuel(oil) are both fossil fuels and contain stored chemical energy that needs no further treatment to produce thermal energy as they burn. So fossil fuel is a form of chemical energy.

How are fossil fuels an indirect form of solar energy?

Fossil fuels are an indirect form of solar energy because solar energy was used to sustain the plant life, through photosynthesis, that is now now part of the fossil fuels.
