For a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer , 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine : With engine oil filter change : ( 4.7 litres / 5.0 U.S. quarts of 5W-30 engine oil ) According to the Owner Guide
The only engine available in the 1997 Mercury Mountaineer was the 5.0 liter ( 302 cubic inch ) V8 and with engine oil filter change it took ( 5 quarts / 4.7 liters of engine oil )
Start with 6qts but be prepared for it to take 7qts
