What type of environments do Australian bottle brushes live in?

The bottlebrush, or Callistemon, varies in its environmental requirements according to the species. Most species prefer open bushland where there is plenty of sunlight, with reasonably dry soils and a moderate amount of rain. However, some species are suited to damper conditions, growing well in the tropical north. Although one of the most adaptable Australian natives, they do not grow in the driest desert areas of Australia.
