What is the hardest ferrule that you can use on a pool cue tip?
Any material can be used as a ferrule on a pool cue, but not all materials can be used for the tip. G10 is a type of fiberglass and is the hardest that can be used for both the ferrule and the tip. There are also cues that have stainless steel or brass ferrules, but these cannot be used as the tip material.

What is the difference between Gunite Pools and Fiberglass Pools?
gunite is a type of sprayed sand cement used for the bottoms and sides of pools then fiberglass panels are fitted in to form the complete side to the top Fiberglass pools are also produced as complete pools and shipped to site by truck. the obvious difference here is that one pool is made from reinforced cement "Gunite", reinforced concrete, "shotcrete" and reinforced fiberglass and all kinds of systems in between.

Can you change your poolsurface from gunnite to fibreglass and how?
you can change the pools surface to fiberglass. but the method to do so is not the greatest solution to your question if the gunite is covered with fiberglass. there is a system that used to be used in the 1990s called fiber tech. fiberglass was sprayed and applied over the existiing surface.this left a very uneven surface that over time would break down and expose the fiberglass mesh and create small shards that would be left to poke into the swimmmers feet and body upon coming in contact with any exposed areas. If a fiberglass surface is what you desire due to the great surface and durability of fiberglass(it lasts a lifetime and is maintenance free) the best solution to obtain this is to have a new fiberglass one piece shell swimming pool installed into the existing gunite pool. Its not cheap but the end result is a great pool that will stand the test of time with no maintenance ever, as long as you maintain you pools water chemistry, and the pool is properly installed by a qualified fiberglass pool installion professional with knowledge of the pool in pool procedure. You will be able to create a whole new backyard experience with all the newest design apeal and latest water feature and technology like automation and chlorine generation(salt pool) (AWESOME) AS maintenance free as it gets. Gunite lookes great when new but soon becomes a maintenance nightmare depending on the climate in which you live. Go fiberglass and you will never be sorry. happy surfing. The coastal water pool pirate?
How can you replace or repair plastic steps for an in-ground pool?
Do not allow fiberglass to be used as a repair for plastic steps, regardless of the type plastic (rovel, weatherpro, loran, centrex) all are ABS plastic and fiberglass cannot form a permanent bond with ABS. Only Methyl Methacrylate Adhesives will bond ABS properly. Yes. I take it this in a inground vinyl pool.. With the pool drained most anyone good with fiberglass repaires can refinish.. Order new steps from your local pool supplier or from the web. What materials are often used in swimming pool design?
How old can the pool be and still get an acid wash?
Age doesn't really matter, as long as the pool is gunite or concrete. But never acid wash a fiberglass pool, or a fiberglass lining in a gunite or concrete pool. I suppose I should explain why, because so few pool pro's understand fiberglass, you will probably receive considerable conflicting information. The finish coat on all fiberglass pools manufactured in a factory is swimming pool gel coat. Unfortunately, this is not true of all fiberglass linings in gunite and concrete pools, although it should be. Gel coat is non-porous which is why it's such a fantastic finish, at least for the first 18-20 years, after which it becomes porous and must be removed and replaced. Using muriatic acid on non-porous gel coat will cause it to become porous, at which time it becomes worthless, and must be removed then replaced with new gel coat. Once it's replaced, you're good for another 18-20 years, unless muriatic acid is again used. -Bill

How do I make my own foot arch supports out of fiberglass?
Can you fiberglass over a gunite pool?
Yes you can. And with great results. We had our gunite pool fiberglassed over about 10 years ago. A local company had glassed over several pools in the area including some at motels. We paid about $6500 including all new deck coating. The company used fiberglass mat and resin for the pool and some kind of waterproof resin material for the deck. The deck still looks like new, but I am going to repaint the pool next year.

How much distance is one lap of swimming?
The distance in one lap of swimming depends on which pool one is in. Competitive swimmers consider one lap to be one length. In the US, there are three types of pools used for competition. The first is called a 25 yard pool. It is 25 yards and is generally used in high school swimming and in club swimming during the winter season. Another type of pool is a 25 meter pool. It is generally used in the summer for club swimming. The final type of pool is called a 50 meter pool. It is the standard type used in club swimming during the summer. This type of pool is used at the Olympics.
On a concrete pool with fiberglass panel sides is it possible to get a leak between the seams of the panels and if so is there a recommended product to seal the seams?
Yes it can leak and will if not installed properly. If it does there is a method and product to deal with it. SEKAFLEX is sealent used with both concrete and fiberglass with 100% satisfaction. If was not used with the installation I would be supprised. Take 4" grider with a diamond blade and score the concret where it meets the fiberglass and fill with sekaflex. Done!

What are the different types of pool plasters?
Diamond brite sgm expo is the best I have ever used.. , never paint or epoxy or fiberglass a marcite pool. Exposed aggregates like this are cement based products meant for concrete pools.. You don't fix a fiberglass boat with cement so you shouldn't fix a concrete pool with fiberglass or other coatings that will break down in treated acidic pool water..Florida pools use a lot of chemicals because they run all year long and you must resurface with a product that can hold up well...Any questions (Tampa bay area only please) call Dennis the pool guy. How can I remove black staining in a fibreglass swimming pool?
Black stains in a fiberglass pool occur when the gel coat begins to break down and is known as "cobalting". The stains start small (pencil point) and grow rapidly. There is no chemical to remove the effects of cobalt. Simultaineously, algae will be able to attach itself to the gel coat, as it transforms from non-porous to porous. Staining will also occur and eventually fiberglass will become exposed. This transition normally occurs in about 20 years in a factory built fiberglass pool, and about 15 years in a fiberglass laminate that was applied to a concrete or gunite swimming pool. Of course, in both instances, the timing depends upon the quality and the thickness of the swimming pool gel coat that was used. The solution is relatively easy and definitely inexpensive. Simply remove (by sanding or sand-blasting) the existing gel coat and replace it with new swimming pool gel coat.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a fiberglass swimming pool lining in a gunite pool?
There are no disadvantages if the pool is properly prepared and, most importantly, the right materials are used to create the fiberglass shell. It is up to the consumer to demand the specific resin, fiberglass mat weight, and gelcoat that will be used in the application. When the materials are delivered, no matter who delivers it, the consumer must demand the Material Data Safety Sheets MSDS, and verify that they represent the exact materials ordered. Then the MSDS must be compared to the Chemical Manufacturers labels before the shipment is accepted. Once you accept it, you're stuck. Assuming the right (which happen to be the most expensive) chemicals and fiberglass are used, and the gelcoat is applied in a timely fashion, (to achieve a chemical bond), the pool will not leak for at least 30 years. The maintenance and chemical usage will be reduced by more than 50%, and the pool will look new and beautiful once again. Between 12 and 18 years later, depending upon pool use and care, the pool will need to be re-gelcoated. Salt water chlorination increases the longevity of the original gelcoat toward the upper end of the term.
