Like other parts in the world China is large, whether it's going to be Mongolian influence or Taiwan influence.

China's staple is rice, in fact, Asia's staple food is rice. In certain regions like Bangladesh or Pakistan, bread is more famous but rice is also consumed in large amounts.

Soup noodles are by far one of the classics in China - Chicken soup noodles, braised duck noodles, dumpling noodles etc. If you're looking into more of Chinese food, I'd suggest you start with Kylie Kwong, because Celebrity Chefs entice a better understanding and interest to Chinese food.

If you were to Google Chinese food, you'll find a wealth of information.

Different regions in China eat different things. Southern region (i.e. Canton, Hong Kong etc) diets are sweeter and the staple food is rice. Northern regions (Beijing, Shanghai etc) usually have saltier tastes with wheat-type staple foods i.e. breads, buns, noodles etc. Sze Chuan is famous for their spicy foods. This is due to weather and terrain differences.

Before rice was cultivated domestically, people ate dim sum style foods.

Diets in Hong Kong and Macau are also different. Because they were governed by the British for 100 years, many of them enjoy bread, Hong Kong style Egg Tarts, macaroni and ham in soup, etc.

Some very typical breakfasts include (but not all eaten together) congee with or without Chinese donut, pineapple bun with butter and milk tea, "fan tuan" (Chinese donut with pickled vegetables, shredded pork, and egg wrapped in rice), instant noodles with fish balls, soy milk with or without Chinese donut, etc.

For me, a typical home cooked Cantonese style dinner would have soup, rice, 4 dishes (atleast one steamed and one stirfried) and fruits afterwards. Leftovers are for lunch the next day. I will not get into the questionable looking foods and leftovers my grandma uses to make "fried rice". But because of her, I will never get food poisoning.

Chinese people love seafood. In my family, we have fish and chicken every meal. Sometimes we have shrimp, ribs less frequently, pork, beef, etc.

Some traditional households will eat vegetarian food on the first and fifteenth of each lunar month. Vegetarian dishes should be prepared using dishes, pots, bowls, utensils that have not touched meat. But this is decreasing in popularity. (My great grandma does this, but not my mother.)

As for beverages, normally, there is none at the dinner table. There is soup for the thirsty, and there is sauce in the braised or steamed dishes for the rice. When going out to eat, hot tea is served. Cold drinks are never served unless requested (or if the customer does not look Asian, or if the restaurant is a West meets East type). This is because of the influence Chinese medicine. Because bodies are warm, drinking or eating cold things will disrupt the temperature inside the body. Especially when eating meals, the cold will "solidify" the oils that are in the stomach, and the stomach will have to work harder to break down the fat and oils. Also, different types of green tea can "cut" oil so they flow out of a body's digestive system.
