Tornadoes do not necessarily need any sort of front. Tornadoes will most often form along either a cold front or a dry line, but can on occasion form along a warm front. Hurricanes, which are not associated with fronts at all, often produce tornadoes. Air mass thunderstorms can also produce tornadoes on rare occasions.

Thunderstorms are caused by the interaction between cold and warm air in the atmosphere. Storms usually act inversely to the temperature around you. If the air is warm, a cold front follows after a storm passes. If the air is cool around you, than usually a warm front follows. I may not be right but I have seen weather maps and studied them briefly but never stayed on focus. So my answer maybe not most reliable.
