What type of infections antibiotics can't treat?

Antibiotics cannot treat a viral infection. An infection caused by a virus. A viral infection includes the common cold, the flu, viral meningitis and most sore throats.

Doctors will prescribe an antibiotic for some people with the flu though to keep them from getting a secondary infection like pneumonia, like bacterial pneumonia.

The over prescribing of antibiotics and the use of so much antibiotics in our food supply has hurt our health and caused antibiotics resistant "super bugs" to form.
