The 2007 Ford Mustang owners manual shows Motorcraft MERCON automatic Transmission Fluid for the Power Steering ( NOT MERCON V )
Use mercron automatic tranmission fluid and do not overfill.
The power steering fluid for it is actually the transmission fluid. It should be Mercron. Is this suposed to go in the power steering chamber or the transmission chamber to work. The fluid in my 2006 Ford Escape XLT steering fluid tank is black.

It should be connected to the power steering pump which is under the alternator; probably right next to the battery.
My 2002 escape calls for mercron atf for power steering so yes.
Um, yeah, you may want to check the brake fluid level in your master cylinder. But, if it's not that, it could be transmission fluid, but I would expect that to be more centered under the car. Also, I suppose it could be power steering fluid, but my Mustang doesn't have power steering so I'm not familar with the placement of its reservoir.

Yes. Right below the alternator. The pump will also be belt driven. The fluid is located in the pump.
