What type of programs offer computer photo editing?

Adobe Photoshop is among the most recognisable paid software packages for photo editing, having even coined its own verb; "Photoshopping" has entered the dictionary. It is widely used in the graphics/publishing industry, and is a favourite tool of the photo hobbyist.

Picnik or Lunapic are free web-based photo editing tools. The advantage in using them is that there is nothing to install, and nothing to pay.

GIMP is an open-source project that aims to provide many of the advanced features of software like Photoshop, and even accepts Photoshop plugins. It is free.

Macphun also offers such apps: noise reduction software noiseless, tonality, snapheal, snapselect, fx photo studio, intensify - these are cheap and can be used as plugins in Photoshop

BatchPhoto can resize, watermark, convert or rename dozens or hundreds of images at once. Within minutes you can process as many photos as you want.

There are many software programs on how to edit photos and most of them are free. Everyone likes free, right? To begin with, I found different software programs and I would highly recommend Picnik, digicam, Squidoo and GIMP.

The list of photo editing programs is huge as new photo editing software appears almost weekly. I'll point out some of the most well-known for me.

- Adobe Photoshop along with Adobe Lightroom are considered to be the benchmarks in this field but there are plenty others as well.

- Photoworks. This is a photo editing software that resembles Photoshop very much but is much easier in usage and lacks several very sophisticated Photoshop tools. I started learning photo editing with it.

- - Skylum Luminar. Nice interface and good result but I somehow wasn't happy with it as much as I was with Adobe products.

Photodiva. Technically, it's a portrait editor but it may be used as an ordinary photo editor, you can change colors or the backgrounds. In some way it resembles the makeup website Taaz, where you could apply any makeup (the site is no longer available).

Capture One.

- Corel PaintShop Pro. To be honest I've never worked with it on my own but I know people who use it for their work, they say it is a good graphic designer with a bit of photo editing tools included.

- Gimp. Beloved by many photographers for it's simplicity and good results. It is a decent software which constantly develops and offers new tools.
