good question. if your valvestems are aluminum, not rubber (they probably are) the pressure sensors are inside the tires and send a signal to a computer that reads the values of all the tires on the car (including the spare). if there is 1 or more tires with low pressure, the indicator light on the dash will come on to let you know there is a problem.

It is probably warning you of low tire pressure. Many vehicles now have a system that senses when the tire pressure is low. On my vehicle it is the "tire pressure warning system".

At the very bottom of the driver's side of the daashboard at about where the steering column goes down, there is a little push switch mounted. Depress it and hold for 5-10 seconds and it will re-set the tire pressure warning system.

Special wheel - speed sensors measure each wheel's rotational speed relative to the other wheels, allowing the system to detect low pneumatic pressure in tires. Once under - inflation is detected, a visual warning will alert the driver.

If the light is on your dashboard it would be the Anti-lock Brake System

There are several warning lights on a 2008 Honda Civic. The main lights are for the brake system, air bag system, check engine, tire pressure, oil pressure, and battery power.

You have to hold the tire pressure button down until the light starts flashing, after 5 seconds press the button again( do not hold it). This will reset the system, and recalibrate it to the new tires

A tire pressure monitoring system may produce a warning if the tire pressure is too high or too low. High pressure may cause the tire to explode or fail in hot temperature. Low tire pressure causes the tire to break down more easily.

(1) Have you checked he inflation pressure of the spare? (2) Have you re-set the warning system?

User Avatar

The light will reset itself if the system is working properly and the tires are at the correct pressure. If the pressure is correct and the light is still on, you need to take it in for service.
