One word: Parasites.

Fresh water fish often have parasites that are dangerous even lethal.

Same reason you don't eat raw snails.

They have the rat liver fluke which goes straight to the human brain and eats it to the point of lethality in no time at all.

There is real concern about eating raw fish. See Related Links.

People who consume raw fish can contract a number of things, including herring worms and Vibrio.

Even though the fish can be frozen (-31°F for 15 hours or -4°F for 7 days) to kill off parasites, not all fish have had this treatment. And not all restaurants are educated about the requirements - or adhere to it.

Well i guess that it depends on where you are getting it from most seafood can be eaten raw Mussels,scallops,kina,oysters,pipi s even most fish can be too

Some kinds of Sabashi, the fish that is eaten with Sushi is edible raw.

Tuna and Salmon is edible raw.
