A Gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more mating surfaces, generally to prevent leakage from or into the joined objects while under compression, it is a deformable material that is used to create a static seal and maintain that seal under various operating conditions in a mechanical assembly. Application And Uses Of Gasket Gaskets is used in Process industry Gaskets is used in Petrochemical industry Gaskets is used in Chemical industry Gaskets is used in Pharmaceutical industry Gaskets is used in Pulp and paper industry Gaskets is used in Food and beverage industry Gaskets is used in Sugar industry Gaskets is used in Flange connections Gaskets is used in Pipe connections Gasco INC. is one of the leading Gasket Manufacturer in India. The lower intake manifold gaskets on 3800 engines are likely to go bad at around 80,000 miles. This is caused from the gaskets being made with rubber and being eaten away by the "So-Called Dexcool" coolant. It is best to replace this gasket as well as the upper plenum gasket with a metal gaskets and change from dexcool coolant to regular antifreeze. This is an expensive repair...so be prepared.

I payed my mechanic $1200, it was mostly labor. I think the gaskets cost $400. Due to the engine being a boxer, it has to be lifted completely to get to the gaskets. This is a labor intensive operation whether you do it yourself or pay someone..
I myself have had very good luck with k-seal in the past. That being said, there is no such thing as a "mechanic in a can". It might fix the problem for a while, but the best thing to do is replace the gaskets as the new intake set has updated gaskets.
If money is an issue, you can probably get by without replacing the gaskets (provided they don't tear when you remove the intake). But for cheap insurance, I'd replace the gasket regardless. Make sure the mating surfaces are very clean, and don't nick the aluminum when you're cleaning it. Being careful with a razor blade scraper tool, a rag and some carb cleaner should have the surface looking like new. With the new gaskets, I'd recommend a spray-on gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket. Permatex sells a nice copper spray which should help seal it up. I've learned that a gasket alone is not enough to make an effective seal. When you install the intake, make sure you torque the bolts to OEM specifications.
I'm not sure if this helps but I have a 97 Ford Taurus and thought i had to have mine replaced (ended up being the actual heads) and was going to run me 900 and that was the cheapest estimate i got I'm not sure if this helps but I have a 97 Ford Taurus and thought i had to have mine replaced (ended up being the actual heads) and was going to run me 900 and that was the cheapest estimate i got
According to a drawing I was looking at in the 2009 Ford Taurus Owner Guide : It shows the automatic transmission fluid level dipstick as being between the engine air filter housing and the engine , towards the FRONT of the engine compartment ( definately not where I would be looking )
Intake manifold may have moved when being tightened down causing intake gasket to move and not seal. There are water passages in it . I pulled the head and the gasket had moved, replaced the gasket and this time used permaseal this fixed the leak.
yes, most cars are not fitted with gaskets when manufactured. as you remove the exhaust manifold bolts the metal on both ends tend to warp and are not true to each other, therefore requiring a gasket to seal any potential leaks from the metal being distorted
well me being a mechanic an 1994 Lexus there seems that the parts are gonna be harder to find and it has to be in good condition. But if not then you have to buy some pieces and then the deduct from the bad head gasket ill buy for 1,500.
By being yourself.
