The rotation of planet refers to the time it takes for it to make one full rotation around it's axis. On Earth, it takes about 24 hours (one day) for it to make one full rotation.

There are actually two different types of "days": a solar day (the time it takes for the Earth to make a full rotation, from one solar noon to the next solar noon), and a sidereal day (the time it takes for the Earth to make a full rotation, with respect to the stars). While these two measures have similar values for Earth, they aren't identical: a solar day is 24 hours, while a sidereal day is 23 hours and 56 minutes long.
