If the vehicle is left hand drive, it is the right side. If the vehicle is right hand drive, like a horse, it is the left side.
Usually right there under the hood. If not, get a motor manual for same vehicle.

When you're passing another vehicle.
Well, not knowing what vehicle you're speaking of, I'll tell you a couple sure fire ways to figure this out. Firstly, look underneath your vehicle, is there a long cylinder running from the front of your vehicle to the rear end? If there's nothing running from the transmission or transfer case in the front of your vehicle to the rear axle, it is front wheel drive. Another way to tell would be to pop the hood, if your motor looks like its sitting in the bay sideways, it is front wheel drive (exhaust manifolds will be on the front / back of the motor, instead of being on the left / right of it).
By Bolivian motor vehicle law people in Bolivia drive on the right side of the road. However, Bolivians (like Ecuadorians, Peruvians,Chileans, Colombians, etc)have been known to drive on any side of the road they choose... at any given time (sober or not).
The vehicle is probably left hand drive and the UK is right hand drive.
