Cinderella is a poor little girl whose widowed father marries again and dies too. Her new stepmother has two nasty daughters who force her to become a servant in her own home. Despite this mistreatment, Cinderella's sweetness and beauty only grows, which makes her jealous stepfamily hate her even more.
Cinderella's goodness is rewarded by her fairy godmother, who helps her complete the impossible tasks given to her by her stepmother. When a ball is held at the castle, the fairy gives her a dress and a pumpkin carriage do she can go. The Prince falls in love with Cinderella and dances with her, but the spell breaks at midnight and she's forced to leave.
Cinderella loses a glass slipper and the Prince returns it to her. He rescues her and makes her his princess. Cinderella forgives her wicked stepsisters, and they all live happily ever after.
Some experts seem to think it came from Louise de la Valliere.
