Her last name is Gale, which suggests a storm, There is both a cyclone and a rainbow in the movie version of Oz so there is a (weather) subtheme. She, apart from the Wizard is the only really named character, on the Oz-side. The three good-guy monsters as I call them, have no personal names, a major credibility gap.

∙ 12y agoGale- as in a type of storm. She is the only character in the entire movie- with the exception of human relatives- Auntie Em and Uncle Henry- that has a real first and last name! It strikes me the use of external noun-clauses-making characters one-dimensional cut-outs- is only used in modern times in this story. Even the Invisible Man has a name ( wait- the Time traveller in Time machine is anonymous) it is a dumb plot device. ( it was used in the Middle Ages with characters such as Jedermann ( Everyman) but this was usually with a pointed morality angle. This device shatters any attempt at realism. In making conversation with the various good-guy monsters - it would make more sense with they had first names- such as perhaps Raghead for the scarecrow ( seems to fit, etc. I don"t like the way this plot device is handled.( anonymity)
