FDR was a great president, which is why he served 3 terms (12 years) in the White House. This was due to the fact that we were in a war (WWII).While trying to resolve the issues overseas, he was diagnosed with polio. This paralyzed his legs, but with physical therapy and support from his family (four sons, one daughter, and his wife Eleanor) he regained some strength. He had many meetings with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin about how to strategize the war. Churchill, Stalin, and Roosevelt made up the leaders of the allies. The leaders of the countries that made up the axis were Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Hirohito.

FDR was the president of the US at the current time, which meant that he was also Commander in Chief. Roosevelt led the US through WWII.
