∙ 13y agoHernan Cortes was a Spanish conquistador who conquered the Aztec Empire. He set sail to Mexico and ended up making a settlement, and allied with local cites. Three months after the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan collapsed, he came back and had Mexico City built on top of it. In 1523, Cortes was named governor and captain of New Spain. Lastly, he discovered land and named it California.

∙ 9y agoThe Spanish Conquistador Hernando Cortes went to what is now Mexico in 1520 to try and find land and riches for Spain. By 1524, the impact of this journey would be evident with the Aztec people being nearly wiped out.
