Hippocrates' childhood is filled with uncertainty because of how far back it dates to, but he is the child of Heraclides and Praxithea. He learned medicine from his father, who was a physician, until his death. Then he went on to Athens to complete his studies with others including Democritus. When his studies were completed, he went on as a traveling physician passing through many cities.
Hippocrates was educated about medicine by his father and grandfather, but he eventually was apprenticed by Asklepieion of Kos. :)

According to Sonarus of Ephesus, Hippocrates was the son of Heraclides, who was a physician and his mother Praxitela was the daughter of Tizane. Sonarus writes that Hippocrates acquired knowledge of medicine from his grandfather and father and that he gained knowledge about other subjects from Gorgias ad Democritus.
