She was Queen of France during the French Revolution. She was Austrian, a country that France had been in war with for years. The French did not want a foreigner on the throne, especially not an Austrian. Also, even before she came to France, the revolution was already smouldering because of the financial disasters of Louis XV which he did to the national treasury. France was already almost bankrupt when Marie Antoinette stepped in the picture, and because the French needed someone to blame it all on, and she was Austrian, she was the perfect victim. The people tried to make all of France believe that she had no concern for her people, spending money on wigs and dresses and throwing wild parties while the population was starving and desperate. The people did believe it, although she was completely innocent and killed her and her husband, destroying the whole French monarchy and the French credibility all around the world for as far as the French had that anyway.

After the bad harvest in 1788 caused many problems in the Third estate. They could not get their hands on bread and all the women led a mob to the Versailles to protest against Mary Antoinette.
Louis XVI became a victim of the guillotine during the French Revolution.
There was no role of women in French Revolution.
Marie Antoinette did not have much influence over Louis XVI. However, she did play a large role in his deciding to try and flee the country (Flight to Varennes).

Marie Antoinette's role in the French Revolution was not as great as Robespierre's or Louis XVI's, but rather as a symbol of economic corruption. The reason being, she was a materialistic Austrian woman who lived a lavish lifestyle; bought all the clothes and shoes that would satisfy her, not knowing that there were people outside of Versailles miles away who were suffering, that too that she had food that could have been provided for the starving mothers and their children of the bourgeoisie (the poor class of France). The reason for Marie's execution (or beheading by the guillotine) was not for being the wife of Louis XVI, not because along with him she betrayed her own country, but because people despised her for wasting the hard-earned money of French workers on selfish items.

There were an awfull lot of people involved in the French Revolution, but to name 4 of the most important figures: - King Louis XVI - Queen Marie Antoinette - Maximilian Robespierre - Napoleon Bonaparte
King Louis XVI started the French Revolution. Then Maximillion Robespierre led the Reign of Terror by bringing in the Guillotine, towards the end of the Revolution. It was considered to be in the realm of a popular uprising in search of leadership. There were plenty of volunteers for the role and it took some time to sort out the survivors.
