Some of the best information I have found, I found in James Bradley's "FLYBOYS". The first 77 pages discuss the measures the Japanese military went to to de-sensitize their soldiers. They invaded China- village after village, town after town, they raped, pillaged and plundered. They were, after all, from the land of the Rising Sun. They felt that because the sun rose and set on their homeland, they were second only to GOD(S). Much of their past, their culture was distorted in the name of honor. The kamikaze was simply the wave patterns surrounding the island of Japan which protected it from invaders, until WWII. Then the military leaders distorted that honor based history requiring their soldiers to give their lives in honor of their father, their homeland and their emporer.

What did militarism have to do with WORLD WAR two?

Here is an example of militarism in World War 2. The Nazis were a militaristic party that ruled their nation with military style rule, not free democratic rule. Even the leader of the nation wore uniforms and all his leaders were in the military. Another example is in Japan where the entire society is formed around a military concept of being warriors and of worshiping their Emperor, who also often wore the uniform of the military. Their boys were trained from the time they are nine years old to be warriors and to think like warriors. With militarism it is prevailing concept and force that rules a nation and their culture. The Spartans in ancient history were an example of a society that revolved around militarism and warfare.
