Does Nintendo make the best gaming systems?

In this Answerer’s opinion, definitely. A lot of people tend to write off their games as “childish”, but their goal is to make fun games. I love the way that some Nintendo games just take one main mechanic and find as many variations on its application as possible.

A perfect example would be the new function given to Mario in his newest adventure on the Switch, Super Mario Odyssey. In this game, Mario has the ability to throw his hat, which on paper seems relatively simple, but in application proved to be a brilliant idea. He can throw his hat to create a new jumping platform, hit blocks, or even take control of an enemy! The amount of possibilities is incredible, and the way the developers made that one mechanic so fun and integral to the overall experience is just one of many examples I could give about Nintendo’s genius game design.

The answer you will get really depends on who you ask, as it is rooted so much in opinion.

In terms of sales alone, the answer would be yes, aside from the Gamecube, all of Nintendo's main consoles have been the best selling of that generation, and most of them have been the first of their kind. For example, the N64 was the first fully 3-d home console system and the nintedo DS got to touch screen gaming long before the I-pod touch.

On the other hand, Sony introduced what most people consider the ultimate game controller in terms of ease of use and accesability to all buttons and Microsoft came up with the incredibly popular Achievements system that has now been taken up by Sony and a few third-party Nintendo games.

It also depends on what type of games you want to play. The Wii excels in platformers and so called "party games", as well as adventure games, but tends to be lacking in terms of First Person Shooters and RPGs (although Monster Hunter Tri has very good reviews. The DS has lots of different types of games and is probably the "all-rounder" of the group.

If the type of games you play are FPS's, then either the Xbox or PlayStation would suit you, although the PS3 is graphically superior to the Xbox. The Xbox also has a lot of Western RPGs and Platformers.

If you want to be able to import games, the the PS3 is region free, so if a game doesn't get released in America and Europe (Pardon my presumption) then you can import it from Japan (although the language barrier could prove insurmountable).

The most important thing to remember is that no matter how many times you ask, you will never get a definitive answer to this question. Also remember that you don't have to stick to one company for your gaming needs, Wiis and DSs are fairly cheap, so it is feasible to buy one of those and a PS3 or Xbox!
